1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Calling all babies, toddlers, and preschoolers!

Join the challenge to read 1,000 books before your child goes to kindergarten!  As daunting as that number might seem, it’s as easy as reading three books a day for a year.  Think about all of the times you’ve been asked to read a favorite book again, and again, and again … every re-read counts!  Online participation on Beanstack is convenient and portable; paper reading logs are also available at the library.

When you’ve read your first 100 books, come in for a sticker, you picture taken for the bulletin board, and a coupon for a free book.

Why commit to 1,000 books?

Research demonstrates that young children who are read to on a regular basis have an advantage when learning to read for themselves. Reading together builds closeness and early literacy skills, which are the foundations for school success.
