Homeschool Book Club

It’s a fully digital version of the Homeschool Book Club!  If you consider yourself a homeschooler (either typically or temporarily), please consider yourself warmly invited to join the conversation.  We’ll be using Zoom for this discussion.

The ages listed for the two discussion groups are approximate.  You are welcome to join the discussion that best fits your interests and reading abilities.  Both groups meet from 10:30-11:30am.

Younger: ages 8-11 (Led by Elaine)

The Last Wild, by Piers Torday

In a world where animals no longer exist, twelve-year-old Kester Jaynes sometimes feels like he hardly exists either. Locked away in a home for troubled children, he’s told there’s something wrong with him. So when he meets a flock of talking pigeons and a bossy cockroach, Kester thinks he’s finally gone crazy. But the animals have something to say. And they need him.

Older: ages 12+ (Led by Pam)

Akata Witch, by Nnedi Okorafor

Twelve-year-old Sunny Nwazue, an American-born albino child of Nigerian parents, moves with her family back to Nigeria, where she learns that she has latent magical powers which she and three similarly gifted friends use to catch a serial killer.
