Have You Met Murphy?

Murphy the Turtle

I am Murphy and the Bedford Library is my new home. I arrived by plane from a turtle breeder in Florida on Tuesday, August 23. My new aquarium is quite exciting, and I am exploring every bit of it.

What kind of turtle am I? A Southern Painted turtle. I come from the southern US, near the Mississippi River. You won't find turtles like me in New England.

Don't call me a baby! I am 2 1/2 years old. I could live to be 25! I won't get much bigger than I am now, though. See my long toenails? That's how you can be sure I am a boy turtle.

My favorite foods are Romaine letuce, worms, shrimp, and turtle pellets.

I am quite friendly but I don't like to be picked up. I do like it when you look through the glass and talk to me in a deep voice.

The Children's Department has materials for children through the sixth grade, including books, videos, CDs, cassettes, CD-ROMs, magazines, books on tape and CD, puzzles and puppets.
